Holiday Health Hacks

I love the feeling of knowing that Christmas is around the corner. There is something in the air that seems to make everything feel just a teensy bit more magical.

Feeling happy is so important for a healthy you. When you are happy and feel good about yourself, you are more likely to take time for yourself, which is so important during the holiday season. With all of the festivities and fun events that take place, it is easy to push your health aside. Having a plan will help you stay on track and on top of it all.

Follow these tips and you will sparkle during the holidays!

Eat!

A small protein filled snack before heading out will help you feel energized and ready to go when you head out the door. You may think that because you will be going to a party and treating yourself to goodies, you would want to save up your calories and eat as little as possible on the day of the event. WRONG. Eating a small snack, like a smoothie, protein bar, small salad, or an apple with a little of your favorite nut butter, will help keep you from eating every delicious looking hour d'ourve in sight.

Drink!...Water!

It is SO easy to forget to drink water when you are busy mingling with family and friends. However, this step is so important! Staying hydrated is one of the best you can do to keep your holiday sparkle all day long. A good rule of thumb is to drink one glass of water per every cocktail or glass of wine you consume. Not only will you feel so much better the next day, but your skin will GLOW!

Work It Out!

Break a sweat, every day! ...or at least try. Staying on track with your workouts will prevent those extra holiday pounds from slipping on and make you feel better during these sometime stressful days. Even if you only have 10 minutes, do something. There are so many great workouts that are time sensitive and are easy to do at home.

Have family in town? Go for a walk, hike, or sign everyone up for a race. Participating in a healthy event, like a 5K is a great way to bond with your family and catch up while doing something healthy for yourself!

Treat Yo'self.

Staying healthy over the holidays does not mean that you can't induldge a little. By all means, please do! Responsibily of course. ;)

I am all in favor of not stressing over what or how much we eat or drink during the holidays. Special times like these only come around once a year.

I love to eat sweets and drink great wine. I come from a family that loves to cook and enjoy a glass of wine or two, however I am picky about what I choose to eat. If it's something that is store bought- I usually pass. If it's homemade and looks absolutely 100% out-of-this-world, I indulge. Eating something that is made with love, real ingredients, and is a special dish, makes me feel less guilty about consuming it.

The holidays are meant to be joyful, not stressful, and full of fun. Remember, it is just as important to take care of yourself as it is to be presesnt in all the festivities. Have fun, be safe, and don't worry about what you eat. Afterall, a healthy life is a balanced life.

xoxo
